Hey Chili Conquerors and Spice Rebels! 
Do you have what it takes to claim Celina’s chili crown? It’s time to break out those secret spices, flex your stirring arm, and crank your crockpot to full send mode! This year’s Battle of the Bowls is turning up the heat – we’re talking BIGGER, SPICIER, and more LEGENDARY than ever. Bring your A-game and your appetite because this showdown is going to be 🔥🔥🔥!

Time: 12:30 pm - 4 pm

Sign up for any category (or multiple categories) you would like to be judged for:

Adult Registration: $40
Kids (14 and Under Submissions) Registration: $25

Categories:

1. Traditional (No Beans): Prepare a classic chili without beans – allow the meat and spices to shine.

2. Non-Traditional (Anything Goes): Unleash your creativity! Experiment with diverse ingredients and surprise the judges with unique flavors.

3. Vegetarian (No Meat): Tailored for herbivores and plant-based chefs – showcase the richness of vegetables in your chili.

4. Kids (14 and Under Submissions): Calling all young chefs! Showcase your skills in this special category designed for our junior chili enthusiasts.

Awards:

1. Grand Prize: Best Overall Chili (All Categories) - $200 Cash:
The top chili across all categories receives the prestigious Grand Prize of $200 cash.

2. 1st Place in Each Category - $100 Cash Each Category:
Each category's winning chili is awarded $100 cash, recognizing excellence in the Traditional, Non-Traditional, Vegetarian, and Kids categories.

3. People’s Choice (Voted on by Public Taste Test) The public decides! The chili that wins the popular vote receives a $50 gift card to a local Celina restaurant or business.

4. Most Unique (All Categories) Stand out with exceptional flavors! The chili with the most unique profile earns a $50 gift card to a local Celina restaurant or business.

5. Greyson’s Choice - Greyson Witt's personal favorite – the chili that captures his heart earns a $25 gift card.

6. Spirit Award - Creativity takes center stage! The team with the most visually stunning tent wins a $25 gift card for their outstanding efforts.

Contestants are required to prepare 6 oz of chili for blind judging. Set up and check-in begins at 11 am, providing a two-hour window to organize your space for audience tastings. Each team receives one (1) official judging cup marked with your team number – reserve enough chili for this cup.

Competition chili will be evaluated based on UNIQUENESS, AROMA, TEXTURE, FLAVOR, AND SPICE. We encourage the use of distinctive ingredients to make your recipe stand out.

Public sampling begins at 1 pm, and the chili you present for public tasting is what you'll submit for the Audience Award. Feel free to go all out to secure people’s votes (within legal limits). Sampling cups and spoons will be provided, and don't forget – bragging rights are not just allowed, they're encouraged!

YOUR 2024 JUDGING PANNEL: 

JOEY DAWKINS - Our OG judge, Joey has been savoring chili at the Penguin Cook-Off for the past three years! After graduating from Le Cordon Bleu in 2012, Chef Joey's culinary journey started with a Highland Park neighborhood catering company and extended to cooking for teams like the Texas A&M Aggies and Oklahoma Sooners. Transitioning into the farm-to-table movement, he founded The Toasted Walnut, evolving it from home dinners to a sandwich shop, and is currently the Executive Chef at Heyday Celina.

ROBERT NEELY - Robert Neely, a Celina resident since 2017, claimed victory two years in a row before transitioning to a judge last year. Ready to dive back into the competition, this avid outdoorsman, mortgage technology professional, and member of the Celina Police Association brings a passion for both cooking and savoring delicious meals.

RANDY WHITE - Excitement brews as we bring BBQ maestro Chef Randy White back to our panel! With roots in both culinary arts and the BBQ world, Randy brings a nationally recognized brand, serving as a private chef, menu development and restaurant consultant, cooking instructor, branding expert, marketing whiz, and radio host. Specializing in "upscale rustic" cuisine, he passionately connects with chefs and backyard cooks, finding joy as a steward of the craft.

GREYSON WITT - Greyson Witt, our chili judge extraordinaire from day one, thrives on a diet exclusively consisting of chicken nuggets and Mac n' cheese. He's utterly unqualified, but hey, his parents own the place – a perfect example of culinary nepotism at its finest! (But don't worry – he's only judging for his award.)


EVENT HIGHLIGHTS: 

Free to Attend & Taste: Tell your friends and family to join the fun, the event is open to everyone!

Frutiland Gourmet Food Truck will be on-site and beer, wine & cocktails will be flowing!


IMPORTANT RULES:
Registration Deadline:  Friday, February 7th before the event on Super Bowl Sunday.


Pre-cook your Chili: Bring it in a crockpot ready to serve, and don't forget your toppings for the ultimate chili experience!
